Columbus, Ohio

Ohio’s capital and largest city, Columbus is located almost exactly in the center of the state. Columbus saw a sharp population increase in 1831 when the National Road reached it from Cumberland, Maryland, and ultimately extended to Illinois. Immigrants were mostly Irish and German. Today, German Village and the Brewery District are historic areas in the 223-acre neighborhood where public tours take visitors through cottages and Queen Anne Victorian homes. Another historic landmark is the North Market, a culinary smorgasbord of prepared foods including sushi and pad thai, bratwurst, pizza, salsa, and more, with a seasonal open-air farmers market selling produce, cheese, honey, and herbs.

About me:
My mother was never much of a cook, and my dad only cooked very simple dishes, so I taught myself to cook and bake. When I was 11 or 12 I started with microwave recipes and slowly worked my way up the culinary ladder. Now I share my recipes with my friends and my parents' friends too! Since moving to Israel, which is a true melting pot, I've been exposed to so many different cultures and ethnicities. I enjoy learning about the different foods the different cultures here eat. I cook eastern european food (lots of Russians here) like krepelach or "pilimeni" and I cook traditional Middle Eastern food as well, such as majadera (rice with lentils & spices)... I hope to continue to encounter new cultures and that their traditions will permeate my kitchen and broaden my culinary repertoire.

Cheesy Potato Soup II

Reviewed on Nov. 17, 2008 by Valerie Cuff
I have tried to make cheesy potato soup before and failed. This one was IT! I used the dried potato flakes instead of flour, salted butter, sharp cheddar cheese and some Velveeta cheese instead of the slices and I used dried parsley instead of fresh. Four adults and many comments later, I had one large serving left! I'm passing it on. Thank you for a winter-ready recipe!

Baked Whole Cauliflower

Reviewed on Nov. 17, 2008 by Jennie
This was beautiful and delicious. I chose to prepare this whole and it made a beautiful presentation (check out the photo I submitted). This is what I did to make it turn out really beautiful and coated all over: Steamed as directed in recipe. Then I mixed all the dry ingredients(no butter) in a large cereal bowl. I sprayed the steamed cauliflower head with cooking spray then placed it upside down in the cereal bowl mixture. I used a spoon to press the mixture around the rest of the head. I placed it back right side up on a pie pan and gave it another spray all over to help it get crispy then cooked as directed. Delicious and a little healthier from omitting the butter :-)

Never Fail Pie Crust II

Reviewed on Nov. 16, 2008 by Luey
I didn't like this as much as a traditional pie crust, but it was as easy as advertised.
