Houston, Texas

Named after General Sam Houston, Houston is the largest city in the state of Texas. Other factoids also put the city at the top of the heap: it’s the 4th largest city in the US; the theater district has the second largest number of theater seats in a downtown area; it’s home to the largest medical center in the world—and the city’s temperature really gets up there too. Houstonians take refuge in the 11,000 air-conditioned restaurants, eating out more than any other city’s residents—and for good reason. Houston’s Tex-Mex is about as good as it gets, and there’s a reason people can’t stop talking about Texas BBQ.

Easy Chocolate Chip Pound Cake

Reviewed on Nov. 18, 2008 by JENNIFER
I wouldn't really consider this to be a pound cake, more like just a yellow cake (I used vanilla pudding rather than chocolate because it's what I had on hand). Actually, I think it tastes like a cake version of chocolate chip cookies. People loved it - who doesn't love cake and chocolate? - and my classmates requested I bring it for the next pot luck. It's quite sweet, and it tasted to me like a cake-mix cake more than others I've made. I made mine as mini-bundts (so cute!) and I think it took about 15 minutes less than the lowest recommended time, so about 35 minutes I think. This is definitely easy and quick, but I think next time I'll just make the poundcake from scratch. There's just nothing like the real thing.

Pork Chile Rojo (Pulled Pork with Red Chile Sauce)

Reviewed on Nov. 17, 2008 by karen
I tried this recipe with some reservations about the salsa and I was right it just wasn't exactly what I was looking for I may try it again using home made chili sauce instead the kids ate some but not much and my husband ate some as well but no one really commented on it which means it was not all that great.

Root Beer Float Cake I

Reviewed on Nov. 16, 2008 by Shonna
This is a nice recipe I followed it to the "T". The cake was too moist when I took it out of the pan. I didnt put the glaze on the cake. I am glad I didnt because the cake was borderline soggy even without the glaze. I will be making this again. But I didnt rate this a five because next time I will be making some adjustments.
